Accuracy of UKMap®

The accuracy of UKMap® is determined by two factors; the quality of the ortho rectification and aerial imagery and the accuracy at which the data was digitised.

UKMap® has a target accuracy of +/- 1m (Root Mean Square Error ‘RMSE’ within 98.5% confidence limits).

The data has been checked by an independent GPS ground survey.

UKMap® has been digitised at 1:250 scale and has a publication scale of 1:1,000.

Suitable for Planning Applications and Land Registry Submissions?

Local Authorities require 1:200, 1:500, 1:1,250 and 1:2,500 scale mapping and UKMap® meets the criteria set out within the Local Authorities guidelines. Therefore, UKMap® is valid for the purpose of planning application submissions.

In addition, the Land Registry have been consulted during the creation of UKMap®, which also meets their requirements.

Coverage and Maintenance

The launch of UKMap® initially sees data covering the main areas of London, however, the UKMap® programme is due to continue with a 3 year completion plan. Ultimately UKMap® aims to deliver 568 town cities and urban areas across the UK, covering 24,000 sqkm and 55% of the UK population.

For Promap customers, having up to date mapping data is crucial. As a registered ‘change partner’, Promap will feedback any changes from customers, which will be included in quarterly updates received from UKMap®.

On an annual basis Promap will receive an update regarding the High Street and Points of Interest Information.

Every 3 years UKMap® plans to re-fly all areas. In the case of London, the plan is every two years, but this is subject to weather and air traffic restrictions. Once a complete re-fly has been carried out a full review of the UKMap® database will be undertaken and changes will be identified e.g. recent conservatories, extensions, new garden sheds, cycle lanes or roundabouts etc.
