Licensing options in Promap
Promap and the Ordnance Survey work together to ensure that mapping is protected under Crown copyright by virtue of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Copying of mapping can be authorised under different copyright licences depending upon the intended use. Please see the options of licences available through Promap.
Data licence options
There are two main licence options to choose from when exporting MasterMap data from Promap. You can either purchase a IBU licence or PDB licence, the differences between the licences are outlined on this page.
Plan Design Build
We now offer the ability to license the way you work with the introduction of flexible licensing terms for data exported and used within CAD systems. Select the licence period you require and ensure that you are covered throughout the duration of your projects.
Data can be shared with the customers and others involved in the project.
Data can be archived for up to 13 years after the expiry of the licence so queries arising that relate to the project can be answered.
The licence periods available are more flexible to the length of a development project. The minimum period is 12 months, with 18, 24 and 30 month licences also offered.
Internal Business Use Licence
The mapping data can be used across the business with no restrictions on the number of users
Data purchased with an IBU licence can only be used internally, and not shared with third parties
Unlimited number of paper copies can be produced from the licensed data
Mapping data can be used as a tool in running the business for a period of 12 months until data is repurchased with an appropriate licence or deleted

Paper Map Copying Licence
Promap is pleased to offer Paper Map Copying Licence. This licence enables unlimited copies of mapping to be made in paper or electronic form by a business. Specifically, the license enables you to:
Copy unlimited amounts of original Ordnance Survey mapping to support day-to-day administration
Make copies of mapping in either paper or electronic form
Include copies of mapping in leaflets, in brochures and on web pages, subject to the rules set out in the licence
Use copies of mapping as part of a professional service, subject to the rules set out in the licence
Copy Ordnance Survey mapping in all offices where your business operates, subject to the applicable fee payable for that number of offices
