The Road to Net Zero: Challenges and Opportunities of Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES)

The Geodata Quarterly Summit in February saw an interesting panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities of MEES between property experts with different backgrounds: Tom Willcock, Head of Innovation at Hollis Global, Joseph Saxby, COO, Building retrofit expert and Catherine Banton, Senior Associate, Dispute Resolution Team at Burges-Salmon, along with Managing Director of Landmark Geodata, Alex Wrottesley.

The discussion began with the panel introducing how they are directly involved with MEES, touching on how the industry feels about its introduction and how it could potentially reap benefits for the UK economy.

The panel offered thought-provoking insights and statistics surrounding this legislation, illuminating the challenges of capacity, efficiency, and quality in succeeding with UK net-zero targets.

Focusing on the positive changes that lie ahead, the panel highlighted the opportunities of MEES, such as improving the EPC regime and the potential for both landlords and homeowners to benefit financially.
